Norröna mit Blackout in der Nordsee

Soeben im Forum Schiff gelesen:

Wie dem färöischen Internet Portal portal.fo gerade zu entnehmen ist, hatte die NORRÖNA vor einigen Stunden einen Black-Out ihrer gesamten Maschinenanlage mitten auf der Nordsee zwischen Norwegen und den Shetlandinseln.

Als Folge des Blackout scheinen die Stabilisatoren entweder beschädigt worden zu sein oder nicht ausfahrbar und das Schiff rollte stark in schwerer See, so dass Schäden bei Ladung (Trailer und Fahrzeuge) entstanden sind (wenn ich den Tenor des Artikels so eingermassen richtig verstanden habe... Wink

Derzeit ist noch nicht klar, ob die NORRÖNA die Shetlands anläuft oder es bis zu den Färöern schafft.

Den 284 Passagiere und 80 Besatzungsmitgliedern soll es wohl gut gehen.

Weitere Infos, sobald näheres in Erfahrung zu bringen ist. Auf der Smyril-Line Homepage wurde jedenfalls soeben der Fahrplan herausgenommen.

Bin eigentlich froh, zurzeit nicht dabei zu sein.

REPAIRS were under way last night (Monday) to stop water entering the Faroese superferry Norröna after one of her stabilizers punched a 20 cm hole below the water line on her port side during a violent storm.

The 163 metre vessel limped into Lerwick Harbour yesterday at around 6pm after suffering a blackout and engine failure en route between Bergen and Tórshavn, late on Sunday night.

One of her stabilizers punctured the hull of the five year old vessel while she was drifting half way between Norway and Shetland in 12 metre waves.

The heavy motion and "hard manoeuvres" also resulted in between 50 to 60 cars being damaged on the car deck. None of the 325 people on board were injured.

Engineers on board the vessel were able to activate a back up system and restart the main engine, and then set their course for Lerwick, the nearest port. Ironically the Norröna stopped calling at the Shetland capital just six weeks ago after dropping the islands off her summer schedule.

Norröna back on schedule

THE Faroese superferry Norröna will return to her normal winter schedule this morning (Friday) when she leaves Tórshavn bound for Bergen and Hanstholm.
Ship classification agents Den Norske Veritas and the Faroese authorities have now given the 163 metre ferry the all clear after she damaged her hull after losing power and drifting for 12 minutes in a storm halfway between Norway and Shetland, on Sunday night.

On Monday the Norröna,, with 325 people, on board came into Lerwick harbour for urgent repairs, and to assess damage worth hundreds of thousands of pounds to vehicles on the car deck.

A trailer laden with winter feed had toppled due to the extreme list of 42 degrees and had crushed around 12 cars. A further 70 or so brand new cars were also damaged.

The Norröna sailed from Lerwick on Tuesday night and arrived back in the Faroese capital on Wednesday morning.
A spokesman for the company in Torshavn said yesterday: "The Norröna has now been approved to resume its sailings by the Norske Veritas and Faroese authorities and been given a full licence."

He added that as a consequence of Sunday's events the company would make changes to its own sailing guidelines which mean that in future the vessel would delay its sailing times more often when the weather was poor.

He said: "The consequences of these new guidelines will be the chance of a higher inconsistency in the regular sailing-schedule for the winter-period.

"Smyril Line apologises for this whole situation and hopes that passengers, freight-customers and other close partners understand the situation of the company."

Sunday's events mean a major setback in the company's financial recovery. Earlier this year, Smyril Line had announced that they were confident of making a profit this year, but this now appears to be questionable.

Shetland Development Trust has an 18 per cent share in the company, originally worth £4.2 million.
