Gas Stove
Gas Stove
Ciao,
I noticed that when planing a trip in Iceland one issue might dalay everything: gas cartriges!
Many things you can bring with you in the plane but this one for sure you have to get it there!
Here in Italy Campingaz cartriges are very common but not in Iceland, last time I had to spend half a day in finding the right shop in Reykjavik!
So, checking the net, I found this stove: PRIMUS, DUO STOVE
It works with almost every gas cartrige you can find! It's not the lightest and it doesn't cost too much.
I still had no chance to test it, but it seems very good!

Re: Gas Stove
As far as I know, there are also adapters available separately. Also you get both types of gas cartridges at the camp site in Reykjavík, where most will have to stop by anyway...
Re: Gas Stove
It excist only an adapter from Campinggaz-cartridges to the Primus-Cookers (or similar systems).
You can find one example here: http://www.edelrid.de/index.php?option= ... Itemid=827
But adapters from screw threated cartridges to Campinggaz-Cookers aren't available.
So if you own a Primus-Cooker and you want to spend your holiday in France or Italy, these adapters are a good and cheap solution. But if you've got an CampingGaz-cooker and want to go to Northern Europe, they are now help.
If you don't want to go to the campsite in Reykjavík, I would buy a new cooker just for screw threated cartridges. You can get cheap ones with a weight of less then 100 g. I haven't tested the Primus Duo yet, but I read that it works good with Primus cartridges but sometimes it seems to have problems with Campinggaz.

Re: Gas Stove
Ciao,
Yes there are adapters but... why not having just a stove ready for whatever cartrige you get! If it works...
Good to know that the camp site has everything! But not always it's possible to go there... And, from the last comments, it does not seem a good place where to stay overnight...
Anyway, if anyone has direct experience on the primus stove is welcome since I am planning to go for a short trip next year and I don't think I will pass from Reykjavik.

Re: Gas Stove
Hi ale,
the Duo Stove works well... no question... for me to heavy. But also important: The mixture of the Power Gas from Primus works much better in cold conditions with a higher percentage of Propan and adding of Isobutan

I know this is off topic but I have two short questions:
1) What's the problem with the campsite in Reykjavík?
2) May I ask you where do you come from?

Re: Gas Stove
Uwe,
the info about the campsite you can find it here:

The next trip is almost ready, one week in the south with the bike. With my mate we are preparing the trip, we miss only the autorization from our girls

Re: Gas Stove
I must admit that I'm a little shocked because I hear about it for the very first time. The only case I know is that a bicycle was stolen from a French guy. Still, I consider the description from that guy, Ulf Hoffmann, about the incidences on the Reykjavík campsite as too exaggerated. I'm using this campsite as kind of base camp for the whole summer in the last three years and nothing happened to me or my equipment and I heard from no one about such incidences ... so far. The only two things that I criticise ist that there are too few toilets and that the common area is much too small ... at least during peak saison.ale hat geschrieben:Uwe,

ok, this explains your greetings with "ciao" and using English language in this forum.About me: I am italian, .... I do not speak german so I read the forum translated from google!!!![]()

By the way, I am impressed that you are using google to translate into Italian. I used this transpation tool a couple of years ago and it was a night mare. But maybe they improved it by now.

ciao
